Let’s go back to where it all began. When and how did you meet your significant other?

I first met my now-husband when we were only 12. We grew up in the same area but never spent time together or even spoke to each other. We had bumped into each other multiple times over the years; we always seemed to be in the same place at the same time - concerts, parties, events, and even on the same train carriage. Once I ran into him on the train and we were wearing the same T-shirt from one of our favourite bands! It felt like the universe was trying to pull us together.

We got familiar with each other, even if it was just a polite smile or wave. When we were 17, we met again at a mutual friend's house where he walked right up to me, sat down, and smiled at me. We spent the whole night talking to each other and we pretty much have spent every day together since.

I couldn’t believe how comfortable I was around him, and how easy it was to talk to him - it felt like I had known him personally for years; like he was my closest friend. We bonded over niche sayings on our favourite shows, shared our favourite music and movies, and have never looked back since!

How did your now-husband propose to you?

My husband proposed to me in November 2023 on a private beach in Newcastle. I was totally surprised when it happened and completely cried all my makeup off. It's not unusual for him to be a little spontaneous and book us trips or make plans, so when he said he thought it would be nice for us to drive to Newcastle for the weekend just for fun I thought, “Okay, great!”

He booked us a nice dinner, got dressed up, and everything was perfect, but I could tell he was nervous about something. I asked him and he just told me he was very concerned about the weather which was very odd, but I sort of just brushed it off as him being his Virgo self - haha!

After dinner, we walked along the quiet beach until we came to a stop and that’s when it happened. It was just the two of us standing there, hand in hand as he asked me to marry him. I couldn’t believe it. I said yes immediately (I didn't even look at the ring, I was too excited!)

He hired a photographer that was hiding on the dock so we could still have our private moment but have all these beautiful pictures to look back on. It's so magical to look back on the moment and get to be reminded of every little detail of the day. I'm so grateful for his thoughtfulness.

Describe your ‘yes to the dress’ moment. How did you feel and how did you know your dress was 'the one'?

I had almost completely given up on finding my dream dress, until I tried on Fleur. I had tried on so many beautiful dresses but none of them felt like me.

I got an email from Eternal Bridal in Sydney from one of their lovely stylists, Soo. She told me that Le Lee Studio had just sent in some of their new 2025 designs and that she thought she found the perfect dress for me.

As soon as I saw it on the hanger, I knew immediately that it was my dress. I tried it on and when I saw myself in the mirror for the first time, I had the biggest smile on my face and I felt SO excited.

My best friends had come along with me and when we opened the curtains, both of them just immediately burst into tears! I had no hesitation that this was the dress I wanted. It felt like this dress was made for me and fit my personality perfectly.

Explain your creative process behind the custom changes you made to create your dream Le Lee Studio wedding dress:

After saying “yes” to the dress, Soo asked me if I wanted to change anything about the design. I had tried on a couple of basque waist dresses in the past and loved the shape of them, so I wanted to incorporate this into my dream dress.

We decided to keep it more on the softer side and only added about 2cm to the length of the corset to give a slight drop. I also chose not to wear the off-shoulder straps because I just loved the look of the gown strapless, but I adored how I had the option to take them on and off.

How did you feel wearing your dream wedding dress on your wedding day?

Putting my dress on for my wedding day felt absolutely magical. It was everything I'd envisioned for myself and more. As soon as I put it on, it all became real for me. I was filled with excitement to walk down the aisle and to show off my dress that I loved so much! I felt my dress really encapsulated my personal style, as well as the overall aesthetic of our wedding. It was the finishing touch to a perfect day.

What inspired you while styling your dream day?

As we had our ceremony outside, I really wanted to keep that theme, so we had lots of florals, greenery, and light-airy materials. I wanted it to feel clean, calm, and minimalistic while also letting our personalities shine. I didn’t want the decor to be the main focus of the day, but rather the people that were celebrating with us.

One of my favourite decisions was to make our Welcome Sign out of a mirror. I loved seeing all the mirror selfies our guests took.

What was the highlight of your special day or moment that you will never forget?

Right before I walked down the aisle, I was standing there waiting after my bridesmaids had all walked down. I was alone for the first time all day and started to feel nervous about all the people that would be watching me.

The music started to play and it was my turn to walk. As cliche as it sounds, as soon as I saw my husband standing there waiting for me, I felt this instant feeling of relief and calmness fall over me. I’ll never forget seeing his face for the first time and being so excited to get to the end of that aisle and to marry my best friend.

If you could go back in time and give your newly-engaged self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t say yes to every opinion! Do what you want to do, and everything will be just fine.
